DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Star Vincent D’Onofrio Reacts to Shocking Cliffhanger in MCU’s Highest-Rated Episode

by · GeekTyrant

The latest episode of Daredevil: Born Again just hit like a brick, and fans are still reeling. Season 2’s fourth chapter, “Gloves Off,” didn’t just deliver one of the most intense sequences in the MCU’s TV lineup, it closed on a moment that feels like it’s about to reshape everything.

Now, Vincent D’Onofriohas stepped in to talk about that ending and what it means for Wilson Fisk moving forward.

If you’ve seen the episode, you already know how brutal it gets. Vanessa Fisk is left bleeding out in Kingpin’s arms after Bullseye finally strikes back for being manipulated into killing Foggy Nelson. The show doesn’t spell out her fate before cutting to black, but it sure doesn’t look good.

D’Onofrio doesn’t exactly dodge the question when talking about what comes next for Fisk. In fact, his comments pretty much confirm that things are about to spiral.

"He's devastated," D'Onofrio tells Entertainment Weekly, hinting at where Fisk's story goes from here. "He's always been broken, he's always been incredibly narcissistic, and that midway point moving forward, he becomes more of a loose cannon than he has ever been before. Considering the position that he's in as mayor, it's a dangerous thing."

That’s a terrifying thought considering Fisk already has a stranglehold on New York as mayor. A more unhinged Kingpin isn’t just bad news for Daredevil, it’s bad news for everyone.

What makes the moment so intense is the real connection between D’Onofrio and Ayelet Zurer, who plays Vanessa. Their history working together added something extra to those scenes that goes beyond performance.

"The idea of a friend getting hurt, especially someone as incredible as Ayelet, it affected me, like a good friend that's been hurt," D'Onofrio admits.

"I know that might sound silly to some people, but when you get invested in a character or, more than that, when you get invested in a story, and you've done emotional work with your scene partner — in this case, Ayelet — for years and years and years, there's no acting required."

That emotional weight absolutely comes through on screen. Fisk isn’t just reacting as a crime boss losing control, it feels personal in a way that makes the whole situation even more volatile.

And let’s not forget Bullseye’s role in all of this. His rampage through the Anti-Vigilante Task Force in the same episode has been getting a ton of praise, and for good reason. It’s one of the most intense action sequences Marvel has put on Disney+ so far, and it helped push “Gloves Off” to the top of the charts.

Right now, the episode is sitting as the highest-rated MCU TV episode ever, tying with Daredevil Season 3’s finale, “A New Napkin,” and surpassing fan-favorite entries from WandaVision, What If...?, Hawkeye, and Moon Knight.

Looking ahead, things aren’t slowing down. The actor behind Bullseye teased what’s coming next, and it sounds like the back half of the season is about to go hard.

"I just think it's some of the best stuff that we've done on the show. Episode 5, I think, is an incredible episode of TV, partly in how complicated it is."

Season 2 is clearly building toward something big. With Fisk tightening his grip on the city and Matt Murdock forced back into the shadows, the stage is set for a full-on collision course.

Created by Dario Scardapane, Chris Ord, and Matt Corman, the series sees Charlie Cox return as Matt Murdock alongside D’Onofrio’s Kingpin, and it’s firing on every level right now.

New episodes of Daredevil: Born Again are now streaming weekly on Disney+.
