Marvel’s ZODIAC Lands New Writers as Plot Details Emerge for Disney+ Spy Thriller
by Joey Paur · GeekTyrantMarvel Studios is getting back into the spy game with its upcoming Disney+ series Zodiac, and the project has found its writers. Amit Cohen and Ron Leshem have been tapped to develop the new Marvel spy thriller, which will follow two agents hunting down targets with superhuman abilities.
The series was first announced at NYCC, but Marvel has kept most of the details under wraps. What we know so far is that Zodiac will center on a pair of spies tasked with tracking individuals who possess special powers. It's an interesting direction for the MCU, especially if Marvel leans into the espionage side of its superhero universe.
Production is expected to begin in 2027, with the series targeting a 2028 premiere on Disney+. Cohen and Leshem bring plenty of experience with suspense-driven television. Leshem helped create the original Israeli series Euphoria, which inspired the HBO adaptation starring Zendaya and developed by Sam Levinson.
The writing duo has also created and executive produced several Israeli series, including Trust No One, Bad Boy, 8200, Red Skies, and Traitor. Their background in thrillers and character-driven drama makes them an interesting choice for a Marvel series that sounds more focused on espionage than traditional superhero action.
Zodiac is also coming as Marvel Studios is scaling back its live-action television lineup, with several established MCU shows coming to an end.
The WandaVision trilogy is wrapping up with VisionQuest, which premiered October 13. The eight-episode series is releasing weekly installments through its November 10 finale.
Meanwhile, Daredevil: Born Again is heading toward its conclusion with Season 3 in 2027. The series has brought several familiar Marvel characters back into the MCU.
Marvel has also decided against renewing Wonder Man for a second season. Despite its short run, the show earned Yahya Abdul-Mateen II an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his performance as the title character. It marked Marvel's first Emmy acting nomination since the success of WandaVision.
With several Marvel shows finishing their runs, Zodiac could offer something different for Disney+ audiences. A spy thriller involving superpowered targets has plenty of potential, particularly if it takes advantage of the MCU's more grounded, dangerous corners.
There's still a lot we don't know about Zodiac, including which Marvel characters might appear and how closely it will connect to the larger MCU. But the concept is cool, and Cohen and Leshem have the kind of television experience that could make this an exciting addition to Marvel's streaming lineup.
