Tom Holland Says He Knows Nothing About AVENGERS: SECRET WARS and Isn't Sure How the Symbiote Suit Would Work in the MCU

If there's one Marvel actor fans have learned not to trust with spoilers, it's Tom Holland. Over the years, the Spider-Man star has accidentally let a few secrets slip, so it's no surprise Marvel Studios has become a little more careful with what they tell him.

As it turns out, Holland says he's completely in the dark when it comes to Avengers: Secret Wars. Not only does he claim he has no clue what the movie is about, but he also says he isn't even sure how Marvel would pull off Spider-Man's iconic black symbiote suit if it finally makes its MCU debut.

Speaking on The Happy Sad Confused podcast, Holland admitted that while he's a fan of the famous suit, translating it to live-action after what fans have already seen in recent games presents an interesting challenge.

"I love the black suit in Toby's movie. I think that's really cool. I think if we ever got to the black suit in Spider-Man, I don't know how we would tackle that challenge because they did it so well in the game, right? I don't know how you make a suit that's similar to the one in the game without having a CG component."

That's a fair point. The symbiote suit in Marvel's Spider-Man 2 set a pretty high bar, both in its look and the way it moves. Bringing that same living, shape-shifting quality into the MCU while keeping it grounded alongside Holland's Spider-Man would take some creative work.

Of course, it’s natural to connect the conversation to Avengers: Secret Wars, where many have been hoping Peter Parker finally gets his hands on the alien suit. When Horowitz mentioned that expectation, Holland reportedly threw his hands into the air and jokingly refused to make eye contact before responding:

"I have no idea what Secret Wars is about. And I think that that is by design because Marvel knows I'm going on this press tour and that is their biggest asset, and I think it's really important that no one ruins it. So I think [it's] by design. I went on holiday with Joe Russo not a month ago and nothing. I don't know nothing."

That certainly sounds like someone Marvel has intentionally kept far away from any classified story details. Even if Holland isn't offering any clues, comic readers already have a pretty good idea of where Secret Wars could be headed.

The original 12-issue comic event follows the mysterious Beyonder, who transports Marvel's greatest heroes and villains to Battleworld, forcing them into an enormous conflict that reshapes the Marvel Universe.

Doctor Doom also plays a major role in that story, making his arrival in Avengers: Doomsday an important piece of the puzzle before Secret Wars arrives.

The comic also happens to be where Spider-Man first encounters the alien symbiote that becomes the famous black suit. Peter initially bonds with it before eventually rejecting it, allowing the symbiote to find a new host in Eddie Brock and create Venom.

Whether Marvel Studios follows that roadmap remains to be seen, but there's already plenty of speculation. Personally, I still think the post-credits scene in Spider-Man: Brand New Day may have quietly pointed toward that storyline becoming part of the MCU's future.

For now, Holland says he knows absolutely nothing, and considering his history with accidental spoilers, Marvel probably prefers it that way.
