THE ORVILLE Director Shuts Down Reports That Season 4 Starts Filming This Fall

Fans of The Orvillehave been holding onto hope for years that the beloved sci-fi series would finally make its long-awaited return.

So when reports recently surfaced claiming Season 4 was gearing up to begin production this October, it was easy to see why excitement spread so quickly. Unfortunately, it looks like those reports jumped the gun.

Rumors started making the rounds after Moviedelic reported that The Orville Season 4 would split filming between Los Angeles and Prague beginning in October. It sounded like the biggest update fans had received in quite some time, especially after months of hearing that Seth MacFarlane had already completed the scripts.

But according to series director Jon Cassar, there's still nothing official. After a fan asked him about the report on social media, Cassar quickly cleared things up, saying: "It’s an old article - still no confirmation - It'll be very obvious when its true."

So, despite the latest wave of excitement, nothing has actually changed according to the director. If the series was moving forward, though, he’s not going to confirm it!

The most recent legitimate update still comes from earlier this year, when it was revealed that the scripts for Season 4 had been completed. The bigger hurdle isn't writing the show anymore. It's finding a window in MacFarlane's increasingly packed schedule to actually make it happen.

That isn't the only challenge. After spending years in limbo, the cast would also have to be brought back together, and some members have already hinted they may not return if the series finally gets the green light.

Disney spent years without officially renewing or canceling The Orville, leaving fans and the cast stuck in uncertainty following the Season 3 finale.

While viewers kept wondering if the show would ever return, the actors couldn't realistically put their careers on hold waiting for an answer. Other opportunities came along, and many of them understandably moved on to new projects.

MacFarlane has hardly been sitting idle either. He's one of the busiest creators working in Hollywood today, juggling multiple productions across film and television.

One of his newest projects is the recently announced Dungeon Crawler Carl series, adding another major commitment to an already packed schedule. Having the Season 4 scripts ready is certainly an important step, but it's only one piece of a much larger puzzle.

As much as I'd love to see The Orville return, I can't help wondering how the series will perform after such a long break. It's been years since new episodes landed on Hulu, and while the fanbase has remained incredibly loyal, there's always the question of whether the momentum can be recaptured after such an extended absence.

Thankfully, fans can always revisit the first three seasons on Hulu while waiting for something official. For now, though, that's exactly what everyone is still doing... waiting.

Until there's concrete confirmation that cameras are actually rolling and the cast is officially back together, it's probably best to keep expectations in check.

After more than four years of uncertainty, it's hard to fully buy into every new rumor that pops up. Hopefully, the next update will be the one fans have been waiting for, but according to Cassar, we'll know when it's real.
