DEADPOOL 4 Hits a Pause as Ryan Reynolds Offers an Honest Update… But It’s Not Game Over

Fans hoping for immediate news onDeadpool 4 might want to ease off the accelerator a bit. The Merc with a Mouth isn’t disappearing, but according to Ryan Reynolds, the next chapter isn’t racing into production anytime soon.

Reynolds first brought Wade Wilson to life in Deadpool (2016), followed by Deadpool 2 in 2018. After years of anticipation and studio reshuffling, the character finally landed in the MCU with Deadpool & Wolverine in 2024. Naturally, that momentum sparked questions about what’s next. The answer right now is… patience.

In a recent chat with Collider, Reynolds opened up about where things stand and made it clear that conversations with Marvel are ongoing, even if nothing concrete has been locked in:

“Briefly, because I’m sure we don’t have much time, I’ve talked to Marvel off and on, always,” he said. “We have a really great relationship, you know? It’s always a conversation.

“I’m always just looking to be additive and help on anything, even if it’s not a movie I’m in. And I’m always writing. I mean, it’s how I kind of get it out of my system. I love writing.

“That character and that world is one in which anything is possible, and that in and of itself allows for so much freedom and storytelling. I have a few things written that I love. I don’t know. We’ll figure out when the time is right. I’m not in any huge rush right now to do anything.”

That last part might sting a little for fans eager to see Deadpool back in chaotic action. But, it also says a lot about how Reynolds approaches the character. He isn’t chasing deadlines. He’s chasing the right idea.

He doubled down on that mindset, explaining why rushing into another sequel might actually hurt what makes Deadpool work:

“Deadpool works best on both scarcity and surprise, so jumping right back into it full on right now is probably something I’m not going to do.”

That tracks with earlier hints that the next outing could shake things up, possibly putting Deadpool in more of a supporting role within a larger team-up. It’s a direction that could keep the character fresh while expanding his place in the MCU.

Even with the slower pace, Reynolds made sure to highlight just how strong his relationship with Marvel Studios has become:

“I gotta say, that Marvel team, those guys have been incredible, all of them, and I’m really, really lucky to have the opportunity to work with them the way I have, as intimately as I have.”

So, Deadpool 4 isn’t sprinting toward theaters anytime soon. But it also isn’t stuck in development limbo. Reynolds is still writing, still collaborating, and still clearly invested in getting it right.

If anything, this update suggests that when Wade Wilson does come back, it won’t feel forced. And for a character built on breaking expectations, that might be exactly what fans should want.
