Tatiana Maslany Says She-Hulk Return Hinges on One Key Creative Element

by · GeekTyrant

Fans wondering if Jennifer Walters will smash her way back into the MCU just got an update from Tatiana Maslany. It isn’t a hard no, but it’s far from a guaranteed yes.

The actor recently shared that there’s one very specific condition that needs to be met before she steps back into the role of She-Hulk, and it ties directly into what made the character stand out in the first place.

Maslany opened up about her potential return while promoting Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed, and her take makes a lot of sense if you watched She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. The series leaned heavily into commentary, humor, and breaking the fourth wall, and according to Maslany, that tone isn’t optional moving forward.

She explained that any future appearance needs to stay rooted in what’s happening right now in the real world. “It would have to be something about the world now because that’s She-Hulk’s power, is seeing what’s happening and sort of calling it out,” she told ScreenRant.

That perspective lines up perfectly with how the character functioned in the Disney+ series, which often poked fun at internet culture, superhero tropes, and even its own studio. For Maslany, that relevance is the whole point.

She went on to expand on that idea and also pointed to the creative voice she trusts most with the character. “That to me feels very open-ended. I do feel like Jessica Gao would be the person to ask about that because she just has such a grasp on the tone of that show and the story of that character. But I do think whatever it is would have to be talking about what’s happening now.”

Gao’s writing gave the show its unique personality, blending legal comedy with superhero chaos in a way that felt very different from the rest of the MCU and it split fans. If She-Hulk does return, it sounds like Maslany wants that same creative DNA intact.

She-Hulk: Attorneyat Law debuted on Disney+ in 2022 and ran for nine episodes, bringing in familiar faces like Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner.

The show embraced the character’s comic roots, especially her tendency to break the fourth wall, something that longtime Marvel readers already knew but mainstream audiences were just getting used to, even before characters like Deadpool made it their signature move on the big screen.

Of course, the series had a mixed reception. It dealt with review bombing and a wave of criticism, much of it aimed at the CGI and twerking. Despite that, it carved out a distinct identity in the MCU lineup. Earlier this year, Maslany shut down rumors that she had been fired from Marvel, calling those claims “disgusting.”

Right now, there’s no official word on a second season, and She-Hulk hasn’t been confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars.

At the end of the day, it sounds like She-Hulk’s return isn’t about contracts or cameos. It’s about having something worth saying. If Marvel can crack that, there’s a good chance Jennifer Walters will be back, and probably ready to call out whatever chaos the MCU throws her into next.
