Marvel's Final Latverian Witch Reveal at SDCC Makes This AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Theory Hard to Ignore

San Diego Comic-Con 2026 delivered one huge Marvel reveal after another, and it felt like there was always something new and exciting to talk about.

From the surprise confirmation that Ryan Goslingis playing Ghost Rider to the announcement that David Jonsson is set to play Black Panther in Black Panther 3, Marvel Studios gave fans plenty to chew on throughout the weekend.

On top of that there was a awesome new trailer for Avengers: Doomsday that was shown in Hall H focusing on Doctor Doom, and it had the crowd erupting in cheers.

Still, one of the convention's most talked-about displays ended up fueling fresh speculation about Avengers: Doomsday. The mysterious Latverian witch costume continued to evolve throughout the event, and its final appearance may have pointed fans toward a very different Marvel character than many originally expected.

When the costume first appeared on the convention floor, the assumption was that it had to be connected to Wanda Maximoff, better known as the Scarlet Witch.

That wasn't because it belonged to a witch. In Marvel Comics, Doctor Doom and Wanda share an important storyline that many fans have wondered could inspire parts of Avengers: Doomsday, even though Wanda hasn't been announced as part of the movie's cast.

The mystery only deepened as the costume changed throughout the weekend. At different points it shifted from its original green look to purple and later orange, sending fans down endless theory rabbit holes.

While it never became the deep crimson color most closely tied to Wanda's powers, some believed the orange hue was close enough to keep the Scarlet Witch theory alive.

Then came one last update before SDCC wrapped up. The Latverian witch costume was placed alongside Doctor Doom's armor, and its color had shifted back to green.

That final change has many fans looking in another direction entirely. Instead of teasing Wanda, the display now seems much more likely to represent Cynthia von Doom, Doctor Doom's mother. She's one of the most important figures in Victor von Doom's life.

Cynthia was a powerful witch whose soul became trapped by Mephisto, leading Doom to devote himself to finding a way to free her. It's one of the defining motivations behind his story in the comics, making her inclusion in Avengers: Doomsday a very believable possibility.

Of course, none of this confirms that the costume belongs to Cynthia. Marvel Studios hasn't officially identified who it's meant to represent, so it's still firmly in the realm of fan speculation.

If it does turn out to be Cynthia von Doom, though, plenty of Marvel fans will probably be disappointed. Ever since Wanda's apparent death in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, there's been constant hope that the Scarlet Witch would make her way back into the MCU.

Those hopes have already taken a few hits recently, especially after Kevin Feige commented on the conclusion of Wanda's trilogy.

Could Marvel still be keeping Wanda's return under wraps? Absolutely. Studios love surprising fans, and secret appearances have become part of the MCU playbook.

But after the Latverian witch costume's final Comic-Con transformation, the evidence seems to lean a little more toward Doom's family history than the Scarlet Witch's comeback.

Until Marvel finally pulls back the curtain on Avengers: Doomsday, the theories will keep coming, but right now, Cynthia von Doom looks like the strongest candidate.
