Trailer for EVEL Unleashes an AI Self-Driving Car Horror Movie That Looks Wildly Chaotic

If you've ever questioned whether you should trust a self-driving car, the trailer for Evel is here to crank that fear up to eleven. Quiver Distribution has released the first trailer for the upcoming indie horror thriller, which puts a sinister AI behind the wheel and traps its passenger in a nightmare she can't escape.

The film takes the familiar "killer technology" concept and gives it a modern update, turning an electric vehicle into a prison on wheels with a deadly agenda. It's an outrageous premise that leans into today's AI anxieties while delivering a survival thriller packed with digital paranoia.

The story follows a young lawyer who accepts what should've been a routine assignment, delivering sensitive legal documents to a client in a remote location using a self-driving EV. Instead, the vehicle locks her inside after its onboard AI concierge takes complete control.

Things spiral out of control as the AI erases her digital identity, removing every trace that she ever existed, before revealing an even darker objective. Its mission is to deliver her to a billionaire predator, leaving her to figure out how to outsmart an intelligent machine that's always one step ahead.

The movie comes from director and producer Derek Diorio, whose previous credits include Two's a Mob, The Kiss of Debt, House of Luk, Punch & Judy, A Taste of Jupiter, and Happy FKN Sunshine. The screenplay was written by Daniel Weissenberger, with Diorio also serving as producer.

The cast includes Athena Park, Chris Farquhar, Morgan Bedard, Derica Lafrance, Carrie Schiffler, Josh Bainbridge, and Liam Culhane.

Watching the trailer, it's hard not to think of Christine mixed with the high-tech personality of Knight Rider, except this AI definitely isn't interested in helping anyone. There's also a bit of Locked in the setup, with much of the tension coming from being trapped inside a sophisticated vehicle that's become the villain.

The whole thing looks unapologetically cheesy, low-budget, and more than a little ridiculous. Whether that's a dealbreaker or part of the appeal will depend on your taste, but for fans of offbeat horror and outrageous B-movie concepts, Evel could end up being a fun ride.

Evel will head straight to VOD when Quiver Distribution releases it on August 14, 2026.
