LANTERNS Episode 6 Trailer Reveals the Brutal Truth About Hal Jordan’s Death
by Joey Paur · GeekTyrantLanterns kicked off with a visual of Hal Jordan dead, but now we know exactly how it happened, and it’s a brutal way for the legendary Green Lantern to go out.
The trailer for LanternsEpisode 6 appears to jump forward to the show’s 2026 timeline, where Hal’s mysterious death in Rushville becomes the focus. The new footage confirms he was killed by a single gunshot to the head, and the circumstances make his murder even more troubling.
According to a forensic pathologist, Hal showed no signs of fighting back. His killer was apparently standing directly in front of him when the trigger was pulled. That raises a big question: Did Hal know the person who killed him?
Kerry Kane adds more information about what happened, revealing there were no witnesses to the murder. She also says the person who broke Hal’s nose was probably the same person who killed him.
Kane also reveals that Hal came back to Rushville specifically because of her, suggesting his return was tied to unfinished business involving Kerry and the Manhunter case.
Now John Stewart is heading back to Rushville looking for answers, despite no longer having his Green Lantern ring. He wants to know why somebody killed Hal Jordan.
That investigation is already putting John in danger. One particularly tense moment in the trailer features someone cocking a gun before greeting Stewart by name. Whoever is waiting for him clearly knows exactly who he is.
Kerry isn’t exactly rolling out the welcome mat, either. She warns John that the Green Lantern isn’t welcome in Rushville, while also admitting that she wanted someone there who would actually care about what happened to Hal.
That brings us back to the events of Episode 5, which ended with John returning his ring to the Guardians after defeating the Manhunter. John told the Guardian that Hal had done everything he could to keep the ring, while admitting that taking it away from him left John feeling empty inside.
Episode 5 also revealed that Hal and John spent roughly ten years apart following their conflict. Somewhere during that missing stretch of time, Hal eventually made his way back to Rushville, where the pilot established he would die under mysterious circumstances.
Episode 6 looks ready to fill in some major pieces of that puzzle. Hal returned because of Kerry, somebody broke his nose, and he was ultimately shot in the head without putting up a fight.
Now John is trying to figure out why, and he’ll apparently have to do it without the power of a Green Lantern ring protecting him. Then, of course, maybe that isn’t really Hal! At least that’s what I’m hoping for!
The mystery surrounding Hal Jordan’s death has been hanging over Lanterns since the beginning, and Episode 6 finally looks like it’s going to dig into what really happened in Rushville.
New episodes of Lanterns air Sundays at 9 p.m. on HBO.
