Marvel’s SHE-HULK Series Was Apparently One of Its Most Successful Shows

WhenShe-Hulk: Attorney at Lawdropped on Disney+ in 2022, it was one of Marvel Studios’ biggest creative swings. The series leaned hard into meta humor, fourth-wall breaks, and a very different tone from the usual MCU formula.

Some fans loved it. Others… definitely didn’t. But now, years later, we’re hearing something unexpected about the show’s performance, and it kind of flips the narrative on what we thought we knew.

According to Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios’ Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation, the show wasn’t just doing okay. It was actually one of their strongest performers.

“I’ll tell you this about She-Hulk,” he said. “That’s one of our best-performing shows. It just hit the general audience. So there was a mismatch between fan response and audience response.”

That’s a pretty interesting to hear considering the overall conversation surrounding She-Hulk since its release. If you asked most Marvel fans, they’d probably assume the show underperformed or failed to connect.

That’s been the general vibe floating around online for years. But Winderbaum’s comments suggest something very different was happening behind the scenes.

The idea that She-Hulk connected more with casual viewers than hardcore fans actually makes a lot of sense when you think about it. The show’s tone, style, and willingness to poke fun at the MCU itself made it feel less like a traditional Marvel project and more like a quirky legal comedy with superhero flavor.

That kind of approach isn’t always going to land with die-hard fans expecting something closer to Avengers-level storytelling.

Still, it raises a bigger question. If She-Hulk: Attorney at Law was truly one of Marvel’s “best-performing shows,” why hasn’t there been movement on a second season?

There are a few obvious factors. The show’s heavy reliance on CGI made it incredibly expensive, especially with Tatiana Maslany in the lead role as Jennifer Walters. But even beyond budget concerns, it feels like Marvel might be weighing more than just raw viewership numbers when deciding what moves forward.

If a large general audience tuned in but the core fanbase wasn’t fully on board, that creates a tricky situation. Do you prioritize broad appeal or fan satisfaction? Ideally both, but She-Hulk seems to have landed right in the middle of that divide.

From a personal standpoint, the show had its ups and downs. There were definitely elements that worked, and Maslany brought a ton of charm to the role. But creatively, it didn’t always stick the landing. It felt like there was a stronger version of this series hiding underneath the one we got, especially in terms of story and character direction.

Even so, knowing the show actually found an audience makes Winderbaum’s next comment a lot more interesting. “I would love the opportunity to make more She-Hulk,” he said. “Honestly. Hopefully one day. Maybe.”

Not long ago, a continuation of She-Hulk felt completely off the table. Now, it sounds like there’s at least a small window still open.

Whether Marvel decides to walk through that window is another story. But if they do, there’s definitely room to refine what worked, fix what didn’t, and deliver a version of She-Hulk that wins over both casual viewers and longtime fans.

For now, it’s just interesting to realize that one of the MCU’s most divisive shows might also be one of its most watched. And that’s a twist nobody really saw coming.
