JACKASS: BEST AND LAST Ditches a Long-Running Tradition as the Franchise Comes to an End

by · GeekTyrant

The end is officially here for one of the most chaotic comedy franchises ever put on screen. Jackass: Best and Last is gearing up to hit theaters, and while fans expected bruises, broken bones, and absurd stunts, what they might not have expected is a major change to a tradition that’s been part of the series for decades.

After 25 years of pushing limits,Johnny Knoxville and the crew are closing this thing out for real. And this time, they mean it.

For longtime fans, the “.5” editions have been almost as much a part of Jackass as the theatrical releases themselves. Movies like Jackass 2.5, Jackass 3.5, Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa.5, and Jackass 4.5 gave audiences a second helping of chaos by stitching together unused footage, extra interviews, and scrapped bits into full-length follow-ups. They were weird, hilarious bonus chapters that kept the party going.

That streak is ending with Jackass: Best and Last.

In a conversation with Fandango and Rotten Tomatoes, Knoxville didn’t leave any wiggle room when asked about the possibility of another bonus installment:

“No 0.5 on this one,” Knoxville replied. “This is it.” That’s about as final as it gets.

It’s a pretty big shift considering how reliable those follow-ups have been, not just for fans, but for Paramount as well. The studio has used those extra releases to extend the life of each film, offering more content while keeping the franchise profitable long after the theatrical run.

But this time, the tank is running on empty. Jackass Forever brought in a new generation of cast members, which had some people thinking the franchise might evolve and continue without the original crew leading the charge. That doesn’t seem to be the plan. Best and Last is living up to its name, and it isn’t just another sequel.

Knoxville explained that this final outing is structured differently from anything they’ve done before:

“We want to go out strong. And it's a hybrid type film, so it's about half new footage, and Spike Jonze directs the opening and closes. And also the best. Our best bits ever. It's a really hard movie to make as far as the bits. Some of our best bits, they couldn't even make it, because stronger ones are in.”

That approach turns the movie into something like a farewell mixtape, blending fresh insanity with a curated selection of the most memorable stunts from across the franchise. It’s not just about topping what came before, it’s about celebrating it.

Of course, there’s a practical side to all of this. The original crew isn’t getting any younger, and the physical toll of these stunts has been stacking up for years. Knoxville himself has already had to step back from certain risks after injuries sustained during Jackass Forever. At some point, walking away isn’t just understandable, it’s necessary.

Paramount’s official description reads “All-new stunts and stupidity along with the greatest hits and biggest laughs from the past.” Whether audiences will embrace a mix of new material and classic clips at full ticket price is something we’ll find out soon enough.

Either way, Jackass going out without a “.5” encore feels like a deliberate choice. No leftovers, no bonus round, just one last painful swing.

Jackass: Best and Last crashes into theaters on June 26, 2026.
