BAYWATCH Full Trailer Brings Back the Beachside Drama, Action, and Slow-Motion Lifeguards
by Joey Paur · GeekTyrantFox has released the full trailer for its upcoming Baywatch reboot, bringing the iconic lifeguard drama back to television with Stephen Amell leading a new team of beachside heroes.
The series premieres in January 2027, and while it looks like the show is sticking to the familiar formula of ocean rescues, personal drama, and attractive people running around in swimsuits, it's also introducing a new generation of characters.
Amell takes on the role of Hobie Buchannon, the former wild child from the original series who has grown up and become a Baywatch Captain, following in the footsteps of his legendary father, Mitch Buchannon.
Hobie's life takes an unexpected turn when his daughter, Charlie Vale, played by Jessica Belkin, arrives on his doorstep with plans to follow the family's lifeguarding legacy. That father-daughter relationship will be a major part of the new series, adding some family drama to all the beachside action.
The reboot also stars Hassie Harrison as Nat, Shay Mitchell as Trina, Thaddeus LaGrone as Brad, Noah Beck as Luke, and Brooks Nader as Selene.
Fans of the original show will also recognize a familiar face, as David Chokachi is returning to reprise his role as Cody Madison. Meanwhile, gymnast and social media personality Livvy Dunne will make her acting debut in a recurring role as Grace.
The original Baywatch premiered in 1989 and became a massive international hit. At its height, the series aired in more than 200 countries and attracted over a billion viewers each week. It also helped turn Southern California's beaches into worldwide tourist destinations and became a major part of '90s pop culture.
Fox is hoping to bring some of that magic back with a modern take on the franchise. The new series will feature the dramatic ocean rescues, romantic complications, and personal conflicts that made the original such a hit, while introducing new challenges for the lifeguards protecting Southern California's coastline.
The Baywatch reboot has also been getting attention at this year's MIPCOM international television market in Cannes, where Amell and Nader have been promoting the series.
Amell, Beck, and showrunner Matt Nix also spoke about the importance of filming the production in Los Angeles, explaining that Baywatch “reminds the broader Hollywood community that there are enormous advantages to shooting in Los Angeles.”
Nix, whose previous credits include Burn Notice and The Gifted, serves as showrunner and executive producer. The series is co-produced by Fox Entertainment and Fremantle, with McG, Michael Berk, Greg Bonann, Doug Schwartz, Dante Di Loreto, and Mike Horowitz also serving as executive producers. McG directed the premiere episode.
I grew up watching the original Baywatch, so I definitely have some nostalgia for the series. It was one of those shows that seemed to be everywhere during the '90s, and it was just part of the television landscape at the time.
That said, I really don't have much interest in watching this reboot. It's not that I think it'll be terrible or anything. I just don't have any real desire to revisit Baywatch with a new cast. Maybe I'll give the premiere a shot out of curiosity, but right now, nothing about it is getting me particularly excited.
Still, there's clearly an audience Fox is hoping to reach, and it'll be interesting to see whether this new version can find the kind of success that made the original a worldwide phenomenon.
The Baywatch reboot premieres on Fox in January 2027.
