Taraba: Nyame commends Kefas for sustaining legacy projects

Former governor of Taraba State, Rev. Jolly Nyame, has praised the incumbent governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, for continuing and renovating projects initiated during his administration, describing the act as uncommon and commendable.

Nyame said unlike some past administrations that abandoned inherited projects to embark on new ones, Governor Kefas chose to complete, renovate and upgrade existing projects, a decision he said demonstrated responsible leadership.

Nyame who gave the commendation on Thursday in Jalingo during a chat with journalists on the occasion of his 70th birthday, specifically lauded the renovation and upgrading of the Taraba State airport, major markets, and government houses in Jalingo and Abuja, noting that the projects were initiated during his tenure.

“The present governor has tried his best by renovating and updating some of my projects. I am particularly happy about the airport and the market. He has done his best and deserves commendation,” Nyame said.

However, the former governor expressed concern that two major projects, the specialist hospital and the stadium, have not yet received similar attention.

Despite this, he said he remained appreciative of the efforts made so far by the Kefas administration.

Speaking on his political ambition ahead of the next political dispensation, Nyame who declared his intention to contest for the Taraba North senatorial seat, said he was aware of potential challengers but expressed confidence in his political standing.

“As far as I am concerned, I am the man of the day. I have been there before, people know me and trust me. I don’t even need to go round the six local government areas,” he said.

Nyame described the Senate as an institution meant for experienced leaders, adding that it is “not for novices, but for elders”.

On the newly introduced tax law, the former governor said the policy is alien to the northern part of the country and would require extensive public education and sensitization, particularly in the North, before it can be effectively implemented.

He also condemned the recent bomb explosion at a mosque in Maiduguri, Borno State, describing the country’s security challenges as deeply politicized.

Reflecting on his personal experiences, Nyame described his worst moments as times when people he had helped later turned against him, saying such experiences were the most painful episodes of his life.
