The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Edo State has deployed 1,542 personnel across the state to maintain security during the 2026 Eid al-Kabir celebrations.

The Edo State Commandant of NSCDC, Saidi Akintayo, announced this on Friday in Benin during a press briefing.

He said the deployment followed the directive of the NSCDC Commandant General, Ahmed Audi, and was aimed at ensuring a peaceful and hitch-free celebration across all three senatorial districts of the state.

According to him, officers were drawn from various units, including tactical teams and the armed squad, as well as Counter-Terrorism, Intelligence and Investigation, Agro Rangers, and Operations departments.

He explained that personnel had been stationed at key locations such as Eid prayer grounds, markets, recreation centres, highways, motor parks, places of worship, and other vulnerable areas.

“Our personnel have been strategically positioned at Eid prayer grounds, marketplaces, recreational centres, highways, motor parks, worship centres and other vulnerable locations to provide adequate security before, during and after the celebration,” he said.

Akintayo also said senior officers had been directed to intensify patrols, surveillance, and intelligence gathering to prevent any breakdown of law and order during the festive period.

He warned criminal elements to stay away from the state, stressing that security agencies were fully prepared to respond to any threat.

The commandant urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.

He also commended Governor Monday Okpebholo for supporting security operations in the state, saying it had improved their effectiveness.

He further praised cooperation among security agencies, describing it as important for maintaining peace.

Akintayo encouraged Muslims to uphold the values of peace, sacrifice, tolerance, unity, and love associated with Eid al-Kabir.
