Gun discovered in car as driver flees scene of fatal Limerick crash

A MAN IN his 30s has died following a three-vehicle collision in Co Limerick.

The three-vehicle collision happened at around 11pm last night on the N21, between Abbeyfeale and Newcastle West, Co. Limerick.

The male passenger of the first car, aged in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gardaí have also recovered what’s believed to be a firearm and ammunition from the vehicle, subject to further examination.

The man’s body has been taken to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

The driver of the first car left the scene on foot and gardaí are seeking to identify this person.

The driver and passenger of the second vehicle, a man in his 60s and a woman in her 70s, were both treated at the scene for non-life threatening injuries.

The female driver of the third car, aged in her 60s, was also treated at the scene for non-life threatening injuries.

The N21 remains closed pending technical examination by garda forensic collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.

Road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and were travelling on the N21 from Newcastle West towards Abbeyfeale, Co. Limerick between 11pm and 11.30pm on Monday 8 June are asked to make this footage available.
