Postmortem exam of woman believed to have died in childbirth at Tipperary home completed

A POSTMORTEM EXAMINATION of the body of a woman found dead alongside an infant at a home in Tipperary on Friday has been completed.

The results will not be released for operational reasons, gardaí said.

The woman, aged in her 30s, was discovered in Carrick-on-Suir alongside the infant. A postmortem examination of the baby is due to take place early next week.

It is understood that the deaths are believed to have occurred during childbirth.

Investigating gardaí are treating the incident as a medical tragedy. It is not believed that there were healthcare professionals at the home at the time.

“The focus of the Garda investigation at this time concerns the preparation of a file for the Coroner,” a garda spokesperson said.
