Man arrested after woman dies in collision between truck and car in Monaghan

Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to the collision between the heavy goods vehicle (HGV) truck and a car on the N2 at Mullaghnee, Annalitten, Castleblayney, at about 8am this morning.
The driver of the car, a woman in her 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was taken to the mortuary at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, where a post-mortem examination will take place.

No other injuries were reported.
A man aged in his 50s has been arrested and is currently being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a station in the North Western Region.
The road is currently closed pending a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place. Gardaí have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them.
Any road users, who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were traveling on the N2 between Castleblayney and Broomfield between 7.30am and 8.15am are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.

The incident follows the deaths of two men in their 20s, who died in separate road accidents in the last 24 hours.
