ANOTHER WEEK OF warm weather is on the cards, with Met Éireann saying that “heatwave conditions” are expected.
Temperatures are expected to climb as high as 28 degrees on Tuesday before edging towards 30 degrees later in the week.
The forecaster also said the warm spell could stretch into next week and the UV Index is expected to be “high to very high”.
“Possible tropical nights may occur in places this weekend. There is also the chance of some thunderstorms later this week,” Met Éireann said, adding that it will likely be very warm at nighttime.
Among the potential impacts of the prolonged high temperatures, the forecaster included drought and wildfires, as well as public transport disruption and health impacts on vulnerable people.
Today’s weather
While much of the country woke to cloudy skies, patches of mist and drizzle this morning, Met Éireann said conditions will steadily improve through the day.
Sunny spells will develop across much of Munster and Leinster before extending further north and west during the afternoon.

The warmest conditions will be in the south and east, where temperatures are expected to reach between 20 and 25 degrees, with some areas possibly climbing a little higher.
It will remain cooler in the west and northwest under cloudier skies, with highs of between 16 and 19 degrees.
Looking ahead
The warm spell is expected to intensify tomorrow.
After another cloudy start in parts of the west and north, sunshine will become more widespread through the day, with temperatures generally reaching the low to mid-20s.
Parts of the east and southeast could see highs of 27 or 28 degrees, although coastal areas in the west will remain several degrees cooler thanks to a light westerly breeze.
Looking further ahead, Met Éireann says Ireland is in for “a lot of dry weather” for the rest of the week, with temperatures continuing to rise.
Friday could bring highs approaching 30 degrees in some areas, while next weekend is expected to remain very warm or hot, with daytime temperatures widely in the mid to high twenties.
Forecasters have also warned that nights will become increasingly “warm and muggy”, with temperatures remaining above 16 degrees overnight in many places.
While sunshine is expected to dominate, there is also the chance of isolated heavy showers or thunderstorms developing later in the week and into the weekend.
