IT’S SET TO be a wet and windy day across the country, with Status Yellow wind and rain warnings issued for eight counties.
The rain warning for counties Cork, Kerry and Waterford began at 9am this morning. It will remain in place until 9pm, with Met Éireann warning that spells of heavy rain could lead to localised flooding and difficult travelling conditions.
Meanwhile, a separate Status Yellow wind warning will come into place from midday for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo.
Strong and gusty south-east winds in those counties could result in difficult travelling conditions and some fallen trees and branches, the national forecaster said.
Nationwide, it will be wet and windy with gales in coastal areas.
Persistent rain will then extend northeastwards to all areas throughout the morning and early afternoon, with some heavy and squally bursts possible, especially later in the day, with the highest temperatures of 6 to 10 degrees.
It will remain wet and windy early tonight near eastern coasts and the rain will clear eastwards overnight and be followed by scattered showers of rain or sleet and some clear spells, with the lowest temperatures of 0 to 4 degrees.

Tomorrow, it will become windy again, with fresh to strong and gusty south to southwest winds and gales on coasts.
A crisp and sunny start in the east will then give way to scattered, blustery showers spreading from the west.
Some of the showers will be heavy with a chance of hail and thunder, and a few could also be wintry over high ground in the west and southwest early on, with the highest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees.
Saturday night will remain blustery, with scattered showers continuing through the night.
We are then in store for another breezy and blustery day, with a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers.
Some of the showers will be heavy and there is a chance of hail, with the highest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees.
Winds will then ease on Sunday night and showers will clear from most areas, with the lowest overnight temperatures of -1 to 3 degrees and some frost and icy patches possible.
And after a mostly dry and bright start to next week, showers will extend from the west on Monday.
The showers will retreat northwards throughout Monday evening, with drier conditions developing in southern parts.
