TEMPERATURES ARE SLOWLY beginning to drop, with the high temperature warning lapsing – but Met Éireann warned impacts will still be felt from the prolonged spell of “very warm or hot and dry weather”.

Today, the dry weather will continue. The forecaster said the sunniest conditions will be in the midlands, south and east. Highest temperatures will be between 23 and 26 degrees.

In the north and northwest, conditions will be cloudier. Highest temperatures here will be between 17 and 22 degrees, with light to moderate breezes.

Tonight will be “fresher” than previous nights. Isolated mist patches will develop. Lowest temperatures are set to be between 9 and 13 degrees.

Sunday will have similar conditions, although temperatures look to fall slightly, the highest of which are forecast to be between 20 and 26 degrees.

Again, the north and northwest coasts will be cooler – between 17 and 20 degrees at the highest.

By Monday morning, it will be cloudier overall. The southern half of the county will still enjoy sunny spells, but patches of drizzle will break in elsewhere.

Met Éireann says it looks likely conditions will gradually grow more changeable, with more clouding, rain and drizzle, and lower temperatures.

Potential ongoing impacts of the period of high temperatures and dry conditions include water safety issues, heat stress and dehydration, and potential disruption to public transport.

The service also raised concerns around animal welfare issues, drought concerns, and wildfires and forest fires.
