A PARROT FOUND perched on a bin outside Terminal One at Dublin Airport on Easter Sunday has been reunited with its owner.

Kevin Cullinane, deputy director of communications at daa, yesterday told RTE News that two of his airport police colleagues were on a routine patrol at the airport with their dog, Jimmy, when they spotted the parrot.

“Now, one of the officers had some nuts in his pocket as it happened,” Cullinane said.

“So he approached the parrot and the parrot seemed to be quite hungry. The parrot was happy to eat out of his hand.”

The airport police made a makeshift home for the parrot by putting a brush handle in a dog crate. The parrot perched on the crate.

They then issued an appeal to the public in a bid to reunite Troy with her owner. The parrot was temporarily called Troy as a tribute to footballer Troy Parrott.

Troy received a vet check. It was established that she was a female Alexandrine parakeet.

She was “safe, happy and being very well looked after by the Airport Police Unit”.

Dublin Airport says that Troy, whose real name is Lola, is now officially back home with its owner Gheorghe Sava.

“After being spotted near Terminal 1, cared for by Airport Police and briefly rebranded as “Troy”, she has now been reunited with her owner, Gheorghe, this evening.

“We were able to confirm Gheorghe was Lola’s owner through her tag number and her reaction to hearing her name.”
