Naughty Dog reconfirms multiple The Last of Us projects – will fully reveal Intergalactic in 2027

Naughty Dog and Neil Druckmann marked The Last of Us Day with a couple of teasers about what lies ahead for the series and for their upcoming sci-fi adventure, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.

The studio has always been very cautious about continuing The Last of Us, repeatedly stating, both after the first game and after its sequel, that they would only return to it if they felt they had more stories to tell within the world.

Druckmann revealed, “We have a couple of very exciting new projects in very early stages – so we can’t say much about them at this point. I will tell you that both projects will expand the canon of The Last of Us beyond Part I and Part II.

“The world of The Last of Us means a great deal to us, and we wouldn’t return to it unless we had something meaningful to say. We believe these stories are worth telling.”

This largely echoes what Druckmann said to the press earlier this month, though the fact that they will expand the canon beyond the first two games is a morsel of fresh information.

What we can probably speculate on is that these will not be live service games.

As for Intergalactic, which was first announced with a cinematic trailer two years ago, he said that “we need to cook for just a little bit longer” before they can reveal it.

“So we want to set expectations: we’re going to be quiet for the rest of this year. In 2027, that changes. We’ll fully reveal Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and give you a proper look at Jordan’s wild sci-fi adventure.”
