‘Journalim is an effective tool for transfer of farm information’
by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduB.D. Biradar, director of research and director of extension, University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Dharwad, said that effective and timely transfer of required agricultural information was possible through the medium of journalism.
He was speaking at the virtual inauguration of the collaborative three-day ‘online training programme on agricultural journalism for effective transfer of technology’ for the officers of Department of Agriculture and allied sectors, students, and others from Dharwad on Wednesday.
“Knowledge is power. Persons with latest information and knowledge is considered to be rich and society gives respect to them than a person having Immovable property and material possessions”, he said urging the participants to make full use of the programme and prune their journalism skills.
Dy. Director (KM), MANAGE, Hyderabad, and course co-ordinator Shrinivasacharyulu Attaluri highlighted the role of MANAGE in Human Resource development for the welfare of the farming community. He requested the participants to register for the regular programmes organised by MANAGE to update their knowledge in transfer of agricultural technology.
Welcoming the participants, professor of Department of Agricultural Extension, College of Agriculture, Dharwad, and course co-ordinator Sunil V. Halakatti briefed about the objectives and purpose of the training programme.
Over 120 participants from 14 States have registered for the training programme. The online training programme includes lectures by experts on various aspects including overview of farm journalism and importance of ToT in farm journalism, storyboard writing for videography, writing news and feature stories, information material for publicity of agricultural programmes/schemes/activities, radio formats for effective transfer of technology, writing success stories and case studies of farm families, and other allied topics.
