Only four pumping stations under Athikadavu-Avinashi project operational: MLA Sengottaiyan

Former Minister and AIADMK MLA K.A. Sengottaiyan said that only four out of six pumping stations in the Athikadavu-Avinashi project were operational, which was why water could not reach all the 1,045 water bodies.

The MLA inspected a 60-acre lake at Kolappalur village in Gobichettipalayam taluk, where water was supplied through the project.

Addressing the media, Mr. Sengottaiyan said the AIADMK government had fulfilled the 60-year-old dream of farmers by bringing the Athikadavu-Avinashi Ground Water Recharge and Drinking Water Supply Scheme. The scheme was benefitting farmers in eight Assembly constituencies across Erode, Tiruppur and Coimbatore districts. If all six pumping stations were fully operational, water could be supplied to all the water bodies, he said.

The MLA called on Minister for Water Resources Duraimurugan to take a special interest in the project. “Even after three-and-a-half years, the DMK government has not fully completed the project,” he said.
