IIITM-K inks MoU with Synopsys to set up open innovation lab in AI hardware and chip design
by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduThe Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management Kerala (IIITM-K) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with software company Synopsys to set up an open innovation lab in AI hardware and chip design. The ceremony was held in the presence of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan here on Wednesday.
The MoU establishes a strategic partnership to provide students and researchers in Kerala with specialised internship training and joint R&D in Integrated Circuit (IC) design, artificial intelligence (AI) hardware, and other emerging technologies. The collaboration aims to align academic programs with industry needs, equipping students with the skills and expertise required in the semiconductor sector.
The event was attended by Alex James, Director of IIITMK, Rathan Kelkar, IT Secretary, Government of Kerala, and Sankalp Kumar Singh, Program Manager at Synopsys.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister highlighted the importance of the partnership in positioning Kerala as a hub for technological innovation. “This MoU represents a significant leap forward in our mission to make Kerala a leader in the semiconductor and AI sectors. It will not only enhance the quality of education but also open new doors for innovation, research, and employment,” he said.
