BBC Strictly Come Dancing's Chris McCausland says there's 'lots that can go wrong'

by · Manchester Evening News

Chris McCausland has said there's 'lots that can go wrong' during his latest performance on Strictly Come Dancing. The comedian is set to do a jive to the Wayne's World Theme for the BBC dance show's annual Movie Week special alongside partner Dianne Buswell.

It comes after Chris, who is Strictly's first blind contestant, and Dianne received a standing ovation from the live audience for their foxtrot on Saturday night (September 28) to Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy by The Tams, picking up an impressive 29 points.

But as he prepared for his next performance, Chris reflected on his routines so far, created by Dianne, and mentioned what could go wrong in his next performance.

He wrote in his latest column for The Telegraph: "My dance partner Dianne Buswell is not dumbing things down. Our first dance to Twist and Shout by The Beatles had a lot that could go wrong. Our desire to surprise everybody meant that there were a number of set pieces that felt like showstoppers, lifts or tricks that if they went wrong would bring the whole dance to a rather clumsy and embarrassing end."

He later added: "Dianne’s trust in my abilities is immense, and my trust in her is likewise. I would honestly try to catch her from a great height whilst riding a unicycle if she asked me to, although I really hope she doesn’t.

"This coming week it is Movie Week, and we will be swapping last week’s elegance for some high-energy mayhem again as we attempt a Jive in the style of the 1990s comedy Wayne’s World, with wigs and ripped jeans galore. Again, there will be lots that can go wrong. I will try to keep a lid on my emotions, though, as nobody wants to see Wayne crying on national TV."

It comes after Chris joked he's a 'broken man' during a break from training as he appeared on This Morning with Dianne. When co-host Ben Shephard asked: "What are you working on this week?" Dianne replied: "It's a Jive, so it's very fast." Chris then chimed in with his own views on how the rigorous routines had taken their toll on his body.

The 47-year-old said: "It's relentless. There is no let-up in it whatsoever. At the minute, I can't feel my legs and all I can feel is my legs at the same time. I feel like I've been riding a horse for a month, it is killing me. I spent about a third of the time trying to jive and two thirds of the time lying on the floor trying to breathe," before he added: "I'm a broken man, Ben. I'm a broken man!"
