Lorraine Kelly issues six-word warning about ‘big danger’ ahead of major TV milestone

Lorraine Kelly is approaching her 65th birthday, and is being lauded this week by her famous friends and colleagues for achieving an incredible four decades on TV.

The star, who fronts ITV's Lorraine every weekday morning, spilled her secret to staying relevant, as her major career milestone approaches.

Speaking on the How To Be 60 with Kaye Adams podcast earlier this year, Lorraine shared how she avoids succumbing to a "big danger" as she gets older, while warning others, "don't get set in your ways".

She said her top piece of advice to those in their sixties would be to remain "curious" and to not dismiss trying new things.

Lorraine shared: "I think it’s all about being curious, you know, it’s all about wanting to find out about more things, being interested in new music - you may not like it that much - but listen to it!

"Watch something on TikTok or whatever it is, don’t just go, 'oh, you know...' and dismiss it, actually have a go. If you don’t like it, that’s cool, but have a go anyway."

Referencing an earlier conversation on the podcast in which Loose Women star Kaye discussed the negative impact of "gurning", Lorraine declared: "Don’t get set in your ways.

"I think that’s a big, big danger, because you were talking earlier about gurning and being moany and all of that, and that’s a really sad thing.

"I hate to see older people like that, because nobody wants to be around you then.

"Older people have amazing stories to tell, and if you’re somebody that’s interested in everything that’s going on, you’re not just interested, you’re interesting, aren’t you? And people want to spend time with you, and that’s what you want."

Lorraine also quipped that she tries her best to have a positive outlook on ageing, as "it's better than the alternative".

This evening, the star will be celebrated in a new ITV documentary, Lorraine: 40 Unforgettable Years, after joining TV-am in 1984 and going on to become one of British TV's most popular broadcasters.

Lorraine: 40 Unforgettable Years airs tonight at 9pm on ITV and ITVX.
