Tess Daly's husband Vernon Kay issues stern warning to daughters over 'damaging' decision

Vernon Kay has made his stance on younger girls adopting an anti-ageing skincare regime very clear, after the topic was brought up by his BBC Radio 2 co-star Tina Daheley during his show on Friday.

The DJ, who shares daughters Phoebe, 19, and Amber, 14, with wife Tess Daly, was "nodding away" as Tina revealed the mental and physical risks of teenagers making this decision by buying into skincare products too early in their lives, due to the products being regularly promoted on TikTok and other social media platforms.

Tina got onto the subject while sharing what was coming up on her Radio 2 show, as she covers for regular host Jeremy Vine. The BBC newsreader told Vernon: "We’re also looking at the obsession some girls have with skincare products designed for much older people.

"Now, I’m talking about nine-year-olds, 10-year-olds worrying about wrinkles and being influenced… I see you nodding away there… by social media - those tutorials - young girls showing their routines, getting ready for school, using all of these different products.

"It doesn’t need me to point out that it’s really bad for you - not only physically, but mentally - at that age to be obsessing about skin products that you don’t need."

Vernon wholeheartedly agreed with Tina, and used Tess as an example of someone who has never developed a complicated skincare routine, instead keeping hers the same throughout the years.

He sighed: "Cleansing at such a young age… you don’t need to put chemicals on your face! Tess Daly from Strictly Come Dancing, she’s had the same routine since I’ve known her - morning and evening - same regime."

"And look how great she looks," Tina interjected, complimenting the Strictly host, to which Vernon approved: "Yes, and it’s just bonkers!

"Like, our kids, I’m the father of two daughters and I’m going through this, I’m experiencing this. And it’s a product for this, and a product for that, it’s like - you don’t need it, you have wonderful skin - stop messing about!"

Tina responded: "And, also, it’s expensive, number one, and damaging, because they’ve got these chemicals in peels and things that you don’t need. Not only don’t you need them, they can burn your skin and they can have the opposite effect, where they’re causing you to age prematurely."

Vernon revealed how he deals with the issue at home with his daughters, telling Radio 2 listeners: "I keep saying, 'give it to your dad, I’ll try it for you, because I look old and knackered - simple as that - give me your peel!"
