Coronation Street fans 'rumble' which Bailey killed Joel Deering - and it's not Ronnie

by · Manchester Evening News

Coronation Street fans think they have rumbled which member of the Bailey family has killed Joel Deering - but it's not next suspect Ronnie. Weatherfield's 'biggest-ever' whodunnit is underway following the discovery of the solicitor's body.

Joel was last seen on-screen at the end of September after he evaded court and a warrant was issued for his arrest. In then scenes, after transferring money to Lauren and his ex-wife Emily, he was seen making an emotional phonecall to ex-fiancee Dee-Dee Bailey from his car with an obvious scratch down his face.

His car was later found abandoned and it was believed Joel may have ended up taking his own life - something Dee-Dee didn't believe - and his body hadn't been found.

However, during Monday night's episode (October 14) of Corrie, viewers saw three lads at a riverbank spotting a body floating in the water. PC Craig Tinker soon approached DS Lisa Swain and Kit Green and announced that they’d found Joel's body.

As the news was broken to the likes of Lauren and Dee-Dee, it was Kit who later confirmed Joel was dead when he went in the water, turning the case into a murder investigation.

Later, during Wednesday's (October 16) trip to the cobbles, Kit revealed to Lisa that Joel died from two blows to the head, inflicted by a heavy weapon, most likely a crowbar.

Following the piece of information, Lisa was shocked to discover from Yasmeen Metcalfe that she had thrown Mason Radcliffe out because he had a crowbar. Swain went back to the station to encourage Kit to look into the possible lead and later, as the teen disposed of the tool in a bin, he was caught in the act by Kit.

Hauled in for question, Kit asked Mason who admitted he threw out the crowbar after refusing to do a burglary for his brothers and was squatting in Speed Daal alone on the night Joel was killed. But he wasn't telling the truth as a flashback clip showed him being visited by Betsy, with her in tears and scared that Joel was going to come after her before Mason vowed to protect her.

Then, as Dee-Dee spoke to Ronnie about the details of Joel's murder, a flashback clip revealed what he was up to the night Joel died, ahead of Friday's episode teasing he may have been at Joel's flat. In his flashback, Ronnie was seen angrily rummaging through a toolbox in Ed's builder's yard. He eventually came across a crowbar, raising it in the air.

But as the episode ended, Corrie fans shared how Ronnie and Mason could be a red-herring in finding the real killer but that a Bailey may have been responsible.

@johnneladderley said: "Ronnie is definitely not the murderer. Now Micheal, he never liked Joel, and after what he did DeeDee he would have every reason to want to kill Joel." But @jase.mitchell.963 replied: "You make a good point but Micheal hasn't been in any recent episodes so yea. I feel like that Ed and Ronnie witnessed the attack on Joel but never called the emergency line." @_flymockingbird_ suspected: "Dee Dee's brother and dad did it." @allydee3 added: "I think dd.s brother killed him."
