Beautiful islands near Cornwall where you can stay in cottages owned by royals
by Isobel Pankhurst · Manchester Evening NewsFor those seeking a regal retreat, one island just off Cornwall offers year-round getaways with holiday homes linked to the Royal family.
The scenic Isles of Scilly, situated 28 miles from Cornwall's coast, have been under the stewardship of the Duchy of Cornwall since the 14th century.
Out of over 200 islands, only five St Mary's, Tresco, St Martin's, St Agnes, and Bryher support permanent residents. St Mary's is the largest and boasts four holiday properties owned by Prince William as the Duke of Cornwall.
According to the Visit Isles of Scilly website, St. Mary's invites visitors to explore its diverse landscapes: "St. Mary's is a great place to get out and about and explore, whether you're here for just a few hours or indeed for a few days."

As the main point of entry to the Isles, St Mary's provides passage to the other inhabited isles as well as some uninhabited ones.
One of the island's Royal-owned rentals is Gatehouse Cottage, which dates back to the early 17th century; it once neighboured the island's Elizabethan Garrison. Perfect for families or a romantic retreat, this two-bedroom cottage has an air of historic charm.
Adjacent to it sits the Guard House, a snug option for four visitors ideal for larger gatherings that can hire both retreats.

A past visitor couldn't contain their enthusiasm about Steval, sharing: "We were so lucky to have the most perfect weather and sat every evening with a glass of wine watching the sun set, listening to the sound of the sea. Steval is the ultimate get away from it all holiday cottage - thoroughly recommend."
Wrapping up the list of Royal residences is Tamarisk cottage which can accommodate eight guests. As the latest jewel in the Duchy of Cornwall's crown on the Isles of Scilly, their site boasts: "Tamarisk is the new flagship addition to our Isles of Scilly collection, offering spacious and stunning accommodation."
