Manchester Airport issues advice for passengers flying with Christmas presents

by · Manchester Evening News

Manchester Airport has issued advice for passengers flying with Christmas presents over the festive period so they don’t get caught out by strict security rules.

Many people will be jetting off to visit family for Christmas, or bringing gifts home from abroad. But passengers still need to follow security measures, especially if they are travelling with hand-luggage only.

The airport has reminded passengers that they need to comply with liquid limits for cabin bags. In a post on X, the airport said: “Are you taking Christmas gifts on your travels? Make sure that any liquid gifts that are over 100ml are placed in your check-in luggage.”

Liquids in your hand luggage need to be in labelled containers of 100ml or less and placed within a resealable clear plastic bag. One festive item which can catch people are out snow globes, which often do not feature any measurement labels.

Another tip the airport has issued to passengers is to make sure they leave presents unwrapped until their destination. It means security staff can examine any items without ruining any decorative wrapping.

The airport is expecting a busy Christmas holiday period, with around 1.1million passengers expected to fly into or out of Manchester during the two weeks between Friday December 20 and Thursday January 2. An incredible 25,000 people are set to travel on Christmas Day itself.
