BBC Strictly Come Dancing fans cry 'cut him some slack' as Chris McCausland move sparks complaints

by · Manchester Evening News

Strictly Come Dancing fans were left crying out in support of Chris McCausland as one of the show's latest move sparked complaints. The comedian reached a personal 'goal' last weekend alongside dance partner Dianne Buswell during the epic Blackpool special.

Chris, 47, revealed that while many of the couples wanted to make it through to the special week, which sees the show broadcast live from the world-famous Tower Ballroom, he and Dianne, 35, wanted to make it to one week beyond the seaside jaunt for a special reason.

Making it through to week ten of the BBC One dance contest on Saturday night (November 23) meant that Dianne's parents, Rina and Mark, were able to see her perform live in the Strictly ballroom for the first time ever after she joined the hit show seven years ago having made the long trip over from Australia.

During their performance, Chris and Dianne delivered a fiery paso doble for their Strictly performance, which brought Dianne's parents to tears after they made their live TV debuts alongside co-host Tess Daly, during which Mark introduced Chris and "our Dot, Dianne" to the floor.

Their performance to El Gato Montes by Manuel Panella secured them a score of 33 out of a possible 40, with Motsi Mabuse saying she "loved the commitment" in the dance.

But it was later that all of the contestants then took part in a Samba-Thon. Having performed their planned routines, the remaining Strictly couples returned to the ballroom floor together to impress the judges with their best Samba moves and were eliminated one-by-one before a winner was confirmed.

The return of the Dance-A-Thon after six years shook up the leaderboard with originally toppers Tasha Ghouri and Ajlaz Skorjanec, who scored a perfect 40 for their routine, finishing runner-up in the Samba-Thon after scoring six in the special contest, and JLS singer JB Gill and Lauren Oakley - who were initially on a score of 39 - scored a seven, bringing both couples' total results to 46.

But it was Chris Strictly fans were concerned for as he was eliminated first in the Samba-Thon, earning an additional one point, leaving them towards to bottom end of the leaderboard.

@kelly_xm_ commented: "To be fair that must have been extremely hard for Chris and Dianne not only having to continually dance a Samba but avoid bumping into the other Dancers. Cut him some slack #strictly." @thatsmypeachx said: "I find it shocking they chose this year to bring back the sambathon when Chris cannot see any of the other couples/be spatially aware of other couples. Like of course he's gonna get voted off first? Not in good taste in my opinion #Strictly @bbcstrictly."

@mishcamucka shared: "I’m disappointed . That was so weighted against Chris , really felt unfair. He couldn’t see Dianne or the others, and had to cope with extra noise and sensory issues. I really hope he doesn’t end up going because of that early elimination now. #StrictlyComeDancing." @strictlylmx added: "They didn’t even give Chris a chance… he literally cannot see and still managed to do that well with 6 other dances going on."
