Locals spot error as GAIL's logo appears on windows ahead of bakery opening in Prestwich
by James Holt · Manchester Evening NewsLocals spotted an error as the logo for GAIL's new bakery in Prestwich appeared on the windows of a former bank ahead of its anticipated opening in the new year.
Since August, rumours had circulated online that bakery chain GAIL’s was to take over the former NatWest bank building on Bury New Road.
It was later confirmed to the M.E.N that the popular chain, which has now opened various sites in the north including Wilmslow, Altrincham, Didsbury, Sale and Manchester city centre, would be coming to the north Manchester town.
Posts on Facebook groups for the local area have seen local residents describe the upcoming arrival as ‘fantastic news for the high street’ and ‘the best ever news for Prestwich’, with the popular London-based chain set to open its doors in the new year.
Owners of smaller local businesses however, worried about the impact the larger restaurant and cafe chains could have on their trade when they eventually open their doors.
Work has been ongoing at the Bury New Road site for a number of months - with signage now appearing on windows of the former bank over the weekend.
However locals quickly spotted an error with the wording, spelling Prestwich incorrectly as 'Preswich'. The sign read: "Hello Preswich. We'll be baking here soon."

GAIL’s, which is known for its selection of fresh, handmade bread, pastries, sandwiches and cakes, first started life in London in the early 1990s. It is now part of more than 140 different neighbourhoods across the UK.
Meanwhile, Prestwich will also be getting a new Rudy’s restaurant next month - with the pizzeria announcing details of its first ever North Manchester site. Now it's 29th location in the country, the restaurant will be serving up its classic Neapolitan pizzas as well as a range of other delights.
