BBC Strictly Come Dancing viewers issue 'cancel' demand after noticing trend 'hitting' set

by · Manchester Evening News

Strictly Come Dancing viewers have made a demand to show bosses after noticing a social media trend 'hitting' the show's set. The hit BBC One dance contest returned to screens earlier this month.

Last weekend, all 15 couples performed for the first time for the judges' comments and scores alone. However, this weekend marked the true start of the competition as they danced for viewers' support.

The scores from week one of the competition were added to the new scores received after their second performances before the voting lines were opened for fans to support their favourites ahead of the first dance-off and exit of the 2024 series.

This weekend, viewers saw Wynne Evans and his professional partner Katya Jones take to the dancefloor with a Viennese waltz, and their performance was well-received by judges.

That was with the exception of Craig Revel Horwood who gave them some constructive criticism. But when speaking about his "very demure, very mindful, very cutesy" work, viewers were flocking to social media to complain as it came just one week on from host Tess Daly using the phrase.

The viral TikTok trend was created by online content creator Jools Lebron and it has quickly taken over social media, particularly for those in Gen Z, which generally refers to people born between 1997 and 2012.

They were also horrified to find Craig saying 'skibidi rizz' to Tasha Ghouri. 'Skibidi' is said to refer to a series of surrealist videos popular on Youtube while 'Rizz' is said to be a shortening of the word "charisma"/

But Strictly viewers are having none of it. One said: "Can we cancel this demure & mindful culture please!" Another commented: "Okay - that's both a host and a judge use the demure/cutesy line. Can we be done with it now." A third noted: "A second 'very demure, very mindful' has hit the strictly set."

Another wrote: "I am begging the scriptwriters to stop the TikTok speak. Mindful & Demure last week, Skibidi Rizz this week STOP IT #Strictly." A fifth shared: "SKIBIDI RIZZ ON STRICTLY?? Despicable #strictly." A fan begged: "Craig pls never play skibidi rizz again." Another added: "Please don’t say skibidi rizz ever again #Strictly."
