An American tourist who recently visited the UK was stunned by one thing at an iconic Wetherspoons pub.

Joel, a YouTuber who produces a number of UK-themed videos for the ItsJps channel, recently took a trip to York.

And he decided to embark on what many would consider a British rite of passage by setting out on his first ever excursion to Wetherspoons to see what this "wonderful establishment has to offer".

Joel quickly spotted something "ridiculous" when he was perusing the menu.

He explained: “To get a classic curry with an alcoholic drink is £10.60. That right there is ridiculous, in my opinion. I have to see what…obviously, it’s not going to be like the best curry you’ve ever had."

He continued: “I mean, that’s a deal. A meal and a drink for 10 quid. In today’s economy, that sounds pretty good.”

Once he left the much-loved British restaurant chain, he summed up his experience: “Alright guys; I’ve finished up with my first Wetherspoons experience. Overall, I enjoyed it…

“I just had a couple drinks there so it wasn’t much to judge honestly. There was no music; there was no TVs.

“There was nothing in there but three slot machines so definitely geared towards profit from an entertainment perspective, but overall, I thought it was really nice.”

It isn't the first time that the YouTube star has visited the British Isles, however, having recently travelled across the pond for the second time - only to find himself shocked by some aspects of life in Blighty.

In addition to finding the UK's public transport system "impressive", Joel was also struck by the pubs, which he dubbed community "focal" points.

He said: "The pub is a place you can just go and talk to your neighbour, get to know your neighbour and just enjoy a pint. It's not really about the partying as much as it is the sense of community and having the Sunday roast and things like that."

Joel also noticed the prevalence of people vaping in his age group, but on a more positive note, he was particularly keen on the much-loved Tesco Meal Deal, which he enjoyed every day while he was in the UK.
