My mum 'won Christmas' after everyone got the same under £30 gift and loved it
No matter your age or your interests, this gift has been universally loved by my whole family - and we use it every day
by Bethan Shufflebotham · The MirrorIf you’re struggling to find the perfect Christmas gift, you’ve come to the right place. Last year, my mum won Christmas when she took all of the stress out of festive gifting by getting everyone the exact same present and it was absolutely genius.
While it wasn’t on anyone’s wish list, it’s been a universal hit with everyone that received one. And 12 months on, it remains one of the most thoughtful gifts we’ve received, as they get used day in, day out without fail.
The gift in question? A wireless phone charger. And even though we all got the same present, each one had different features that made them perfect for each recipient.

The first thing that’s so great about a wireless phone charger is that, no matter your interests, whether you’re a beauty buff, tech lover, outdoor enthusiast or have an entirely different hobby, it’s a super useful gift. Plus, they’re typically under £25, making them a relatively affordable present, too.
One of the models mum bought was this 3 in 1 Wireless Charging Station from Amazon. Originally £30.64, it’s currently down to £26.99 ahead of the Black Friday sale. This docking station not only charges your phone, but also has docking stations for your AirPods and Apple Watch, ideal for anyone who needs to charge all three gadgets overnight.
The sleek charging station looks really neat on a bedside table, and eliminates having to switch between cords, meaning no more clutter or tangled cables. My brother, who used to juggle three separate chargers, now enjoys a much neater set up, much to the delight of his wife, too - it’s the gift that keeps on giving, in that sense.
As well as looking the part, the docking station has an LED light which looks great and can indicate whether your device is charging or if the device is on standby. But what’s even better is that you can turn off the light with a touch sensor, which is great for light sleepers, like my dad, who also has the same design.
The only downside is that the device is only compatible with Apple products, which is a shame for Samsung owners looking for something similar. Moreover, the device is static rather than foldable like some alternatives online, making it trickier to take on-the-go or on holiday.
The charger has a 4.3 star rating on Amazon , based on more than 6,500 reviews, with one shopper writing: “So good - I bought a second one. Really organised my bedside table and charges really quickly. Very impressed. Got rid of 2 additional charging cables.”
Another added: “Very impressed that this charges my phone even when it is in a fairly sturdy wallet style case. The watch charges at just the right angle to be able to see the time during the night without having to pick it up. Having a single plug for phone, watch and airpods removes the tangle of wires beside the bed, and means that hotel rooms with very few sockets no longer raise the dilemma of which single device to charge overnight.”
Though one did find the LED light a frustration, perhaps unsure how to turn it off, commenting: “This looked great and did what it was meant to. However, the base has an annoying LED light which remains on all of the time when charging. I was charging my phone & watch in the bedroom and the light was so annoying. I sent it back and will look for one without LED lights.”
For those who don’t have watches to charge, you might want something a little bit simpler, like the Anker Wireless Charger. The PowerWave Pad works with both Samsung and Apple devices and comes in at £11.99 instead of £15.99.
I received a similar pad-style charger, though mine was from B&M, and they’re great because they look like a coaster, so really unassuming and don’t take up much space. They work with phones or earbuds, though you can only charge one at a time, but it’s still a lot more convenient than having to switch cables constantly.
Another style my mum bought was for my partner, and that was a wireless charger that doubles as an alarm clock. Again, that one was from B&M, but I’ve found the zerotop Wireless Charging Alarm Clock, which is really similar on Amazon. Priced at £23.99, it has three brightness levels with an LED display that shows the time, date or even temperature, if you so wish.
Elsewhere though, shoppers can also find wireless phone chargers at a number of other high street retailers, including Currys , Argos and Dunelm . My personal favourite is the 3-in-1 station, though, which you can buy on Amazon here .
