Morrisons issue major recall for popular product that is 'potentially unsafe to eat'

The supermarket is recalling its product due to the absence of an ingredient, which it says prevents microbiological growth - making it 'potentially unsafe to eat'

Morrisons has urgently recalled a food item after omitting a key ingredient, making it "'potentially unsafe to eat".

The supermarket's own brand of Crushed Garlic was pulled after it was found to have been missing the ingredient which prevents microbiological growth. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) says the lack of the ingredient makes the product "potentially unsafe to eat".

No other Morrisons products are known to be affected. In a notice on its website, the FSA said: "Morrisons is recalling the above product. Point of sale notices will be displayed in stores where the product was sold. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product."

Customers who have purchased the 75g packets with a best before date of October 19, 2025, are being urged not to eat it. Instead, they can return the packet to the store where they bought it, with or without a receipt, and receive a full refund.

It comes as Tesco recalled its own-brand tzatziki dip after salmonella was found in it this week. The dip that has been included in the recall has a use by date of November 24, 2024, and no other date codes are affected. Tesco said it found the presence of salmonella, which can cause fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps, during routine testing.

If you have purchased one of the affected tzatziki dips with the above date code, you should return it to your nearest Tesco supermarket for a full refund. The tzatziki - which is a Greek style yogurt dip, mixed with cucumber, mint and lemon juice - costs £1.35 and comes in a 200g tub. All product recalls are listed on the Food Standards Agency and Chartered Trading Standards Institute websites. You should also notice recall notices in stores if they've pulled a product from shelves.
