Amazon axing one of its popular Prime member perks in major blow to customers
Amazon is getting rid of its Try Before You Buy service, which lets Prime members try on select clothing, accessories and shoes before buying the item
by Levi Winchester · The MirrorAmazon has confirmed it is axing one of its Prime benefits.
The online retail giant is getting rid of its Try Before You Buy service, which lets Amazon Prime members try on select clothing, accessories and shoes before buying the item. Try Before You Buy will no longer be available from January 31. The service allows you to try out up to six items at a time, then after receiving the products, you can return any unwanted items within seven days for free.
Amazon confirmed this service is being phased out due more people using AI features. A spokesperson from Amazon said: "Given the combination of Try Before You Buy only scaling to a limited number of items and customers increasingly using our new AI-powered features like virtual try-on, personalized size recommendations, review highlights, and improved size charts to make sure they find the right fit, we’re phasing out the Try Before You Buy option."
Amazon Prime costs £8.99 a month, or £95 for the year upfront - but this isn't the only major change Amazon has announced in recent years relating to its subscription service. Amazon started charging £2.99 a month from last February to remove adverts from its Amazon Prime Video service.
At the time, the company said in an email to customers that the change will “allow us to continue investing in compelling content and keep increasing that investment over a long period of time”. Amazon also announced a new £1.99 charge for Prime members in September 2023 on same-day delivery orders that come under £20.
You can cancel your Prime membership for free if you're not happy about this update. Members who haven't used any Prime services should get a full refund. If you have only used Amazon Prime delivery benefits, then you may be eligible for a partial refund. But if other services - such as Prime Video, Prime Music, or Prime Gaming - have been used, you won’t get a refund.
