Christmas Day weather: Met Office's hour by hour forecast with exact timings and temperatures

Brits hoping for a white Christmas on December 25 will be in for a surprise with most parts of the country set to see the mercury tipping into the double digits

Brits are set to face a mixture of conditions on Christmas Day with wind, rain and dry spells being forecast across the country.

Strong winds and rainfall is set to blight many Scots on December 25, particularly those living in the Highlands and west coast. The Met Office said it will be drier in much of the country with only some isolated showers forecasted in England.

Temperatures are due to hit the low double digits with all areas of the UK seeing at least 10C with some regions experiencing highs of 12C. For most, Christmas Day will have perfect conditions for an afternoon walk.

Met Office forecaster Aidan McGivern said Christmas Day would largely be a continuation of much of December 24ths weather with mild conditions being a feature for much of the country. The forecaster added there would be spells of rain and windy conditions in northern parts of the country.

"We head into Christmas Day and it's more of the same," he said. "It's a grey start to the day, but it is a mild start with temperatures widely 9 to 12 Celsius.

"Outbreaks of rain and a strong wind for the northwest of Scotland in particular. And that rain really accumulating over the next few days. 40, 50mm in places, but it's drier to the south. That actually for many is a dry Christmas Day.

"There'll be some glimmers of brightness coming though across central and eastern parts of the UK, but on the whole it is a cloudy one nevertheless, with lighter winds in the south and mostly dry it's not looking too bad for a Christmas Day afternoon walk.

"The wet and windy weather largely affecting north west Scotland at this stage but it is going to be breezy generally across northern parts of the country. And another mild one, not quite as mild as Christmas Eve, but still 11 to 12 Celsius from the top to the tail of the country."
