by · The Mirror

I'm A Celebrity have finally said goodbye to their first campmate. Alex Scott was booted out of the jungle last night, with one of her best friends flying in to meet her.

Everyone had expected girlfriend Jess Glynne - who Alex spoke about fondly in the jungle - to be at the end of the bridge but Alex has exclusively opened up to The Mirror on why Jess wasn't there.

She told us: “It's been a tough time for us and obviously her family, and it was a tough decision to come into the jungle, but then Jess never wanted me to step away from not doing it.

"I knew there was always a possibility of her not being across the bridge, if her mum hadn't got better, or if things had been getting worse, which they have been. But it was a big decision for me to not pass this opportunity, and Jess was the one that pushed me to be here."

Whilst Alex is first out, 11 more celebrities remain in the jungle - as we head back Down Under to see how the stars are getting on - and who's at risk of heading home next...

Shona's mum's seal of approval

The mother of I'm A Celeb's Shona McGarty has given her seal of approval to rapper Aitch, describing him as a "lovely boy" amidst rumours of a blossoming jungle romance.

Jennifer, a retired school business manager, revealed that the pair's playful pillow fight – which culminated in Aitch wrapping his legs around Shona – has been her favourite moment so far.

She said: "I am loving it – she has relaxed into it now which obviously makes me really happy. I enjoyed the pillow fight and seeing her fun side coming out. That's what makes me happy – to see that she's being her natural self and I can see she's really enjoying it and savouring it, which is great. You can see the joy and mischief on her face. That's the Shona we know and love."

Alex's admission

In an emotional conversation with The Mirror, Alex revealed she nearly pulled out the show because of Jess' poorly mum, as she wanted to be with her girlfriend during the tough time.

Asked if she considered pulling out of the show, Alex said: "Oh, yeah, absolutely, 100 percent. But Jess was the one that wanted me to do this, so that's why I wanted to go in and still make her proud.” When they finally spoke on the phone after Alex became the first celebrity to leave the jungle on Friday night, emotion quickly gave way to laughter.

"The first thing she said was that she loves me and we're getting married….no, I'm playing,” she laughed. “She said she was just so proud of me and how I came across and that I was truly myself. But we know it's a TV show, and they’re the edits…but she's proud of how I came across, and can't wait to have me home with her."
