Ryanair flight 'crashes into fuel truck' at Edinburgh Airport as passengers terrified

A Ryanair plane was forced to evacuate after "crashing into a fuel tank" at a UK airport.

Holidaymakers were reportedly left terrified by the collision at Edinburgh Airport shortly after 10am this morning. The flight was bound for Faro, Portugal, but was quickly brought to a halt after it hit the fuel truck while heading to towards the runway, witnesses said.

"It was scary - the pilot came on the intercom and tried to pretend it wasn't as serious as it looked," one passenger told The Scottish Sun. "They can't use the plane anymore. It was just starting to move and was driving to the runway when it crashed into the fuel tank.

"Thankfully, we weren't going at a fast speed," the passenger added.

Edinburgh Airport confirmed there was an "incident" but said there had been "no impact" on operations at the airport. It also dismissed reports that the collision had sparked a fire.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said it received a call after an "aircraft collided with a fuel truck". Crews have one pump on standby are working at the scene with the airport's fire crew.

Departures at Edinburgh Airport appear to be unaffected by the incident.

Passengers are understood to have been given £3 vouchers to spend inside the airport as they prepare to board a new Ryanair flight.
