The exact date UK weather maps will turn blue and bring on freezing temperatures has been revealed.

Colder conditions are inevitably on their way as Brits brace themselves for the cooler climates of autumn and winter, but according to WXCharts it is not long until we feel the bite of freezing temperatures. Earlier warnings from the weather forecast suggested the first sightings of snow could be made this weekend, and it seems freezing temperatures are following soon after.

According to the chart, today (Sunday, October 13) will see parts of the UK hit zero while other areas hit near-freezing point. While London and southern parts of the country remain at a chilly 6c, the map shows cold points in Scotland and parts of the north east.

Parts of the country like Inverness and even below Edinburgh will be feeling frigid, 0C temperatures according to WXCharts. Met Office charts suggest it will be somewhat warmer than WXCharts are predicting, though say the weather across the country today will likely be "cloudy, dry and cold". Their long-term forecast makes note of frigid and "unsettled" conditions to come.

A forecast from the Met Office for October 17 to October 26 reads: "Through the second half of next week conditions will be very unsettled with rain affecting most regions at times. The heaviest rain is likely to be in the west or southwest to begin with, but later in the week, the focus probably shifting to central and eastern areas. Following the rain, a drier and brighter interlude is probable, before conditions turn unsettled once again by next weekend.

"However, most of the rain, showers and strong winds are likely to be in the northwest with southeastern areas often dry and bright. Temperatures will be above average and probably feeling warm in the brighter spells. Later in October, there is a chance of more settled conditions developing, but with temperatures falling closer to average and some overnight frost and fog."

WXCharts had earlier predicted an "Arctic Freeze" was on the way with members of the public preparing themselves for sub-zero temperatures in uppermost parts of Scotland. The Met Office has suggested the first signs of frost and fog will be coming in the latter days of October and may start to appear more frequently at the start of November.

They revealed: "Potentially some wet and windy weather at first, especially in the northwest, but a trend towards more settled conditions is most favoured for late October as high pressure becomes increasingly dominant. This would bring the potential for frost and fog at night, and possibly large variations between daytime and overnight temperatures. Into early November, high pressure may become more centred to the northwest of the UK, resulting in a gradual trend towards more unsettled conditions, particularly across southern regions."
