I'm A Celebrity's Coleen Rooney panics as her boat sinks in lake during first challenge
Coleen Rooney's time on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! 2024 gets off to a terrible start as the WAG ends up sunk in a boat during a race to get to the camp
by Seamus Duff · The MirrorColeen Rooney has been left stressed and sopping wet as her first I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! challenge ended in disaster.
The 38-year-old mum-of-four is one of the ten original contestants of the 2024 season - with two more expected to flop into the jungle in the days to come. And as a first challenge of the season, the stars - which include Dancing On Ice judge Oti Mabuse, McFly hunk Danny Jones, and N-Dubz icon Tulisa Contostavlos - had to make their way to a meeting location via various forms of transport.
The celebs were split into two - with some set to drop down from the sky in daring parachute jumps, while others - including Coleen, the wife of footballer Wayne Rooney, 39, had to paddle across a lake to meet hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly. The five parachuting stars were tasked with landing on an island where the remaining five contestants, including Coleen, were to wait to greet them.
Ant and Dec told the five that they were already part of a race to become the first leaders of camp. The race had already begun as the other five celebrities are en route via helicopters and were told to skydive down to meet them. Once landed, the parachuting stars would then pick one of the island based stars to couple up with.
Those celebrities would then run with them down a track to hop inside a boat which they would then row towards camp. But the boats have been sabotaged to slowly fill with water during the gruelling challenge. As sneak peek snaps show, Coleen's boat becomes completely submerged - soaking her and fellow star, BBC Radio 1 host Dean McCullough.
After being confirmed as a contestant for the 2024 season, Coleen shared that she is a huge fan of the show. She said in a pre-entry interview: “I do watch the show every year, you get hooked on it, you get to know the campmates, the challenges are always entertaining and it’s a good family show.
"The most rewarding thing for me is the fact I have actually agreed to do it. It’s a massive thing as I am so close to the children, I do everything for them. I am a really organised person and so to take myself away from that is going to be difficult. But I’ve got a very supportive family around me and I know everything is going to be fine.”
She also claimed she had been asked to appear on the show countless times before. She said: “It has been year after year I have been asked to go on a programme and it’s always been a straight no,” says Coleen as she outlines her reasons. “Over the years, there have been different things going on in my life and also, my children have been really young.
"But they are at an age now where I can go away for this length of time. I also feel it’s time to have a challenge for me and do something different. It has taken many, many years but I’m finally doing it. And I have always said if I was going to do one – then it would be this show. I think it will be good for me.”
