After much speculation, BBC Radio 2 has officially announced that she’ll be departing BBC Radio 2 after six years presenting the Breakfast Show. Zoe wore Bella Freud’s signature 1970 Jumper for the occasion, as she told listeners: “After six incredible years on the Radio 2 Breakfast Show, it’s time for me to step away from the very early mornings and focus on family."

Whether coincidence or a carefully-planned sartorial choice, 1970 also happens to be the year that Zoe was born, marking a full circle moment for her as she took the leap into the next chapter of her life. Zoe also opted to wear the black version of the celeb-loved jumper, although she isn’t the only celebrity who’s a fan of the 1970 jumper, with Alexa Chung and Alexa Chung both previously spotted donning the cosy knit in various colours.

Zoe wore the Bella Freud 1970 Jumper, £355, to host the show in which she announced her departure, as well as to snap some pics outside the BBC studios with Scott Mills, who will be taking over for her in the Radio 2 Breakfast Show slot. The jumper was inspired by the New York punk scene and Patti Smith, making it a perfect choice for Zoe who is known for her diverse and edgy music taste.

It’s made from luxurious merino wool, making it ultra soft and cosy, with the fibres coming from ethically-farmed, non-mulesed sheep to ensure they’re environmentally friendly. The merino wool is also breathable and helps wick moisture away from your body, keeping your temperature regulated so you stay comfortable no matter how warm or cold the weather is.

The 1970 Jumper has a flattering slim fit that has a subtle “rock and roll edge” and can be worn on its own or layered either over shirts and T-shirts or underneath everything from cosy puffer coats to tailoring and suiting. It’s also perfect for wearing with anything from jeans or wide leg trousers to leather mini skirts and satin midis, making it the perfect versatile addition to your wardrobe.

If a slim fit isn’t for you, you can also shop the Oversized 1970 for a more relaxed silhouette that subtly tapers in and cinches your waist, or supersize it with the boxy New Era that has a more effortless drape for a cool, laid back look. If the 1970 jumper is a little out of your price range, you can still shop key pieces from the Bella Freud X Marks and Spencer edit at a more affordable price, including the Pure Cashmere Honey Jumper for £129.

Other brands have also launched their own version of the jumper, including Mint Velvet whose £89 White Cotton Graphic Jumper, which has a similar design with the slogan 1989 on the front and a red and white colourway that makes it perfect for the festive season.

Elsewhere, Joanie has its own iconic jumper with the Cilla Penny Lane Intarsia Jumper for £59. The jumper comes in a copper-coloured sparkly knit and has the famous Liverpool landmark Penny Lane street sign across the chest.
