BNPL Fintech Klarna Introduces AI enabled Digital Commerce Solution within ChatGPT

by · Crowdfund Insider

BNPL Fintech firm Klarna (NYSE:KLAR) has rolled out its Shopping Search application directly inside ChatGPT. Announced on May 20, 2026, this new tool integrates real-time product discovery into everyday conversations, allowing digital technology users to explore shopping options without leaving their chat interface.

The timing aligns with changes in how consumers discover products online.  During the 2025 holiday period, visits to retail websites originating from AI platforms surged by nearly 700 percent, while those shoppers demonstrated 31 percent higher conversion rates compared to traditional channels.

This trend highlights a preference for AI-assisted shopping experiences that feel more natural and efficient.

Previously, individuals seeking buying advice from AI chatbots faced a fragmented process.

They often needed to switch between multiple browser windows, cross-check information from different retailers, and deal with potentially stale pricing details.

Fintech Klarna’s new application changes this by letting users simply describe their needs in plain language.

The system then delivers visual product suggestions complete with current prices, stock availability, and special promotions from various sellers—all within the ongoing conversation.

Once users find something appealing, the app directs them to the retailer’s website to finalize the transaction.

At the center of this experience lies Klarna’s advanced Product Search MCP server.

This technology links ChatGPT to Klarna’s live commerce database, which includes over 100 million products and 400 million merchant listings spanning 13 different markets.

The connection ensures consumers receive updated, accurate information directly in their chat environment before being guided to complete purchases elsewhere.

For retailers, the launch represents an exciting opportunity to reach customers at a critical decision-making moment.

Products appear in organic search results based on relevance, while merchants can also opt for clearly marked sponsored positions to increase their visibility.

This creates a high-intent channel that connects brands with motivated buyers who are already engaged in the discovery process.

“ChatGPT has become the go-to place for millions of people as they decide what they want to buy,” remarked David Sykes, Klarna’s Chief Commercial Officer.

“By integrating our broad network of merchants straight into that moment, we’re helping transform what used to be a lengthy process of opening multiple tabs into a single, fluid conversation.”

The Klarna Shopping Search app is now available for users in ChatGPT.

To access it, individuals can navigate to the Apps section in the sidebar, search for “Klarna Shopping Search,” and connect the application following the on-screen instructions.

Once linked, users can begin describing their shopping needs to receive instant, real-time results.

As covered, Klarna operates as a global digital bank and provider of flexible payment solutions.

The Fintech company serves more than 119 million active users worldwide and processes around 3.4 million transactions daily.

Its AI-enhanced payments and commerce platform aims to make smart payment options accessible everywhere for every type of purchase.

Consumers can use Klarna for online and in-store transactions, including through Apple Pay and Google Pay. Over one million retailers partner with Klarna, including Uber, H&M, Saks, Sephora, Macy’s, IKEA, Expedia Group, Nike, and Airbnb.
