How to complete the Tox Clear event in Marathon
Tox Clear event rooms are relatively easy and lucrative loot zones in Marathon, provided you know how to clear them of the toxic gas.
by John Schutt · ShacknewsAs you explore Tau Ceti IV in Marathon, you’ll undoubtedly see rooms filled with bright yellow toxic gases - the Tox Clear map event. Completing Tox Clear is simple, and if you want to brute force it, you can do that too.

How to loot Tox Clear rooms
You’ll find Tox Clear rooms on most maps in Marathon. As you approach them, their question mark symbol on your HUD will turn into a square, and when you hover over it, you’ll see their designation show up.
To clear the yellow gas from a Tox Clear room, you need a special key: the Hazard Override Card. These keys are fairly common. I most often find them in side rooms on shelves, but the higher value of the loot location, the more common they are to find. Think North and South Relays on Perimeter, Algae Ponds, or Complex on Dire Marsh, for instance.
Provided you have a key, look around the Tox Clear room for a bright red computer console. Go up and interact with it to repair it, then wait about 15 seconds for the gas to vent.
You have about 30 seconds to loot a Tox Clear room before the gas comes back, and you need to use another Hazard Override Card.
Thankfully, most Tox Clear rooms only have a few trunks and other moderate-value loot containers, so it shouldn’t take you long to go through everything.
It’s also possible to brute force Tox Clear Rooms using a Mechanic’s Kit. These consumables immediately clear the Toxic status effect and grant a 30-second immunity from contracting it again.
I don’t usually recommend doing Tox Clear rooms late into a round, as your backpack will be filled with loot from the rest of the map, and at least one PvP encounter. They are a good source of Salvage and faction upgrade materials, though, so they’re worth doing if you need to top those off.
