The Duskbloods began development in 2021 on the original Nintendo Switch
FromSoftware started working on The Duskbloods five years ago.
by Asif Khan · ShacknewsIn a recent roundtable interview, Hidetaka Miyazaki was asked by The Verge if the success of Elden Ring had given FromSoftware more freedom to pursue titles like The Duskbloods. His answer included some interesting information on the timing of the game’s development.
Miyazaki said that “I wouldn’t say that Elden Ring necessarily served as a catalyst for trying out things that would be considered riskier or anything like that. This game, specifically The Duskbloods, started development I think in 2021 so of course Elden Ring, you know, they both kinda happened sort of alongside each other.”
In response to another question about gameplay mechanics that FromSoftware considered when making a game for Switch 2, Miyazaki provided some more details about the early development phase of The Duskbloods.
The title was initially developed, of course, for the Switch 1 and I think there (were) definitely a few things that we were thinking ‘oh this would be really nice, but maybe there might be some hardware limitations there that we’d have to rethink it.’ But, sort of amidst that, we had the Switch 2 come along and it was something that once we had switched everything over to that a lot of those problems just went away.
Miyazaki added that “we were definitely very very happy when we heard about the Switch 2 because it was something that we were thinking ‘how are we going to do this?’”
Luckily we will never have to experience The Duskbloods running on the original Nintendo Switch console.
