ByteDance, the creators of TikTok and CapCut, has been ramping up its use of AI as the technology continues to grow in popularity. As it pursues its own AI dreams, ByteDance will begin manufacturing its own processors to avoid the hurdles caused by supply constraints.

Reuters reported the news that ByteDance would begin making its own CPU chips. The decision comes as CPU prices have surged, including from Intel and AMD, the two companies that ByteDance previously purchased its chips from. ByteDance joins Microsoft, Google, and Amazon, which are all making their own chips internally.

The report states that ByteDance is gearing up for a bigger push into AI, which will include a significant investment in Coze, the company’s AI development platform.

ByteDance’s new CPUs will be deployed at the company's data centers, and in its internal servers. In other AI news, NVIDIA is planning a new HQ in Taiwan that’ll see it spending $150 billion annually in the country, while Uber’s President said that AI spending is becoming “harder to justify.”
