Twitch addresses viewbotting with concurrent viewer cap penalties
Twitch says streamers will be notified when enforcement is applied.
by Donovan Erskine · ShacknewsTwitch CEO Dan Clancy has released a new statement addressing viewbotting, a phenomenon in which users deploy bots to boost views on their channel. Clancy says that the battle against viewbotting is constantly evolving, but that Twitch will soon enforce a CCV (concurrent viewer) cap on channels it deems guilty.
Dan Clancy’s statement was shared by the official X account for Twitch. In it, he says that viewbotting is bad for both Twitch and creators. “For channels identified as persistently viewbotting, we will apply a cap to the streamer’s CCV for a fixed period of time, on all of the Twitch surfaces,” he wrote. “The cap will be based upon historical data regarding that creator’s non-viewbotted traffic. Repeated violations will result in longer penalties.”
Clancy went on to say that creators will be informed when a CCV cap is placed on their channel. However, enforcement details will not be shared publicly because Twitch believes that information makes it easier for viewbotting companies to circumvent their efforts.
Viewbotting has been an ongoing ordeal for Twitch, and the company has publicly addressed the issue in the past. Stick with Shacknews for more Twitch-related news.
