Sony officially bows out of CES 2027 attendance

A Sony spokesperson has confirmed that the company is skipping CES 2027 as part of a shift in focus on 'technology geared to support creators.'

Sony Group Corp has confirmed that it is skipping CES 2027. This comes after PlayStation’s parent company has had decades of presence at the event and is apparently part of a refocus on entertainment IP and creator technology.

A Sony company spokesperson said as much in a recent statement provided to Bloomberg on the decision. Sony’s statement is focused on the company’s apparent pivot. “We continuously and strategically evaluate our approach to events and communications based on the needs and priorities of our diverse business.”  

The statement goes on to claim that Sony is evolving its focus towards entertainment, its collective IP, and technology made to aid creators.

Sony has been exhibiting products at the Consumer Electronics Show since the very beginning in 1967. It has almost always had a presence there either on its own, showing off products like 3D television and the PS5, or, more recently, in joint ventures like the Sony Honda Mobility Afeela joint project, which was first revealed in 2022 and was discontinued this year.
